Sticks/staffs/canes are not intended to be used for full weight support.  They are used for balance and light support.

To determine the length for a walking stick/staff hold a broom handle at a height that feels comfortable (when the elbow is at 90 degrees, forearm parallel to the floor) or slightly higher.  Measure from floor to top of hand, add two or three inches more for walking sticks, (better a little longer than too short), six to nine inches more for hiking staffs. (Hiking staffs can even reach to the shoulder or chin).

The following chart shows suggested lengths of sticks based on individuals’ heights.

40” – Child, up to 4 ½ ‘

48” -- 4 ½’ to 5 ½’

55” – 5 ½’ to 6’

58” – above 6’

Any of our sticks can be adjusted by, removing the rubber tip if present, cutting off what is needed to be removed, and putting the rubber tip back on.

Remember that items can be shortened, but they cannot be lengthened!
