My name is William Ruffell, (Silver Fox), and I have been creating artistic wood pieces most of my life.

Living in the Idaho Magic Valley, I have been inspired by the beauty I have found around me.  I have spent many years hiking through mountain tops seeking pieces of highly unusual dead wood that have been exposed to the forces of Nature.
 

Some of the pieces presented herein come from woods that are hundreds of years old.  Knotted and gnarly, they show their struggle undergone to survive on mountain tops. They reflect the challenges of Nature; they are filled with the scars of their lives, including fire and pests, disease, and the touch of relentless elements. They came to the forest floor to return to the Earth.
 

Brought to the studio, they are custom finished, with respect and sensitivity, to reveal the magnificence found beneath the decaying bark.  The mystic beauty of these marvelous survivors is revealed in amazing and fascinating designs and colors. The wood lives once again as tactile works of art.

 

My creations are a hybrid of many styles of wood, and finishes along with other aesthetic and practical features, using my experience and imagination.  The best of traditional combined with the finest of contemporary contributes to the quality and satisfaction with each piece that I finish.
